Bandit Baseball
Overview
For players seeking a higher level of baseball development, competition, and commitment, players can try out for OBA's age-specific Bandits baseball teams. Bandit teams play in the 680 Diablo League (description below) as well as local and regional baseball tournaments. This is separate from OBA's traditional House League.
Expectations
The Bandit season runs from January through June. It involves regional and local tournaments that can occur at various times between February and June, but primarily before and after the 680 Diablo League season (March through mid-May). Occasionally a team can choose to participate in tournaments that require plane travel.
All players on a Bandit Baseball team are expected to attend 90% of the team's twice per week practices that start in late January. We require that if you participate in Bandit Baseball, then baseball is your child's primary sport in Spring.
Bandit teams are led by our paid Coaching Staff during the season. As a result, fees per player are considerably higher than OBA house team fees. Per player Bandit fees are expected to range from $2000 to $2600 per player.
680 Diablo League
Bandit teams participate in the 680 Diablo League, a league primarily composed of East Bay teams (i.e. Danville, Martinez, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Vallejo, etc.). The 680 league usually consists of teams who are also of higher commitment and skill level compared to their own local house baseball teams.
The 680 season generally follows the same time frame as the OBA house season, running from March through mid-May.
Games are scheduled in 3-game weekend series (e.g. 2 games Saturday, and a single game on Sunday… home and away alternating locations). Scheduling typically results in games EVERY weekend with the exception of Spring Break, comprising a regular season of 18-21 games.
A League playoff is held at the end of May, either Memorial Day or the weekend before. All teams of the 680 league have a requirement that players play in 85% of their team’s 680 regular season games to be eligible for the playoffs.
