Volunteers

We need you!

OBA only works via the generous commitment of our community volunteers, which allows us to offer a great experience to our kids and community while at the same time keeping fees lower to make baseball as accessible as possible.

The Volunteering Requirement

In light of the above, we do have mandatory volunteer requirements for each family for each OBA season. It generally is a single 2-3 hour obligation, which can generally be fulfilled via two categories:

  • OBA Baseball Community Volunteer: these jobs span working on Opening Day, working a Snack Shack, or helping with an OBA community event.
  • OBA Field Days: At various times throughout the year, OBA will organize working sessions to get our fields ready for an upcoming seaon, to maintain the fields mid-season, or just making general improvements to our fields and facilities.

Who is exempt?

To recognize that OBA Managers/Coaches and Board Members go above and beyond for OBA by giving so much of their free time, they are automatically exempt from these volunteer requirements. Please note that providing team specific help, such as performing game day "field prep" for your team or serving as your team's "team parent," does not fulfill the broader OBA-wide volunteering committment.

OBA families do have the option to “buy out” of their complete volunteer obligation for $200, payable during registration, but otherwise this is mandatory for all.

What Happens If Don't Fullfill It?

And if, at the end of a season, your volunteer requirements have not been met or bought out, then the child/children of that family will not be eligible for post-season all-star or tournament teams and could also be ineligible for partipcating in the next OBA season. While we truly never want to enforce this, we do need to convey how much we feel OBA needs the help and commitment by all-- applied consistently and fairly.
